Editorial Review:

Amazon.comFinally a way to keep unwanted animals out of the garden and protect your yard, fruit trees, vegetables and flowers from hungry or destructive creatures. Cats, dogs, deer, rabbits, large birds, and many others. The patented Scarecrow motion-activated sprinkler is the smartest scarecrow ever invented. When it sees an intruder it instantly releases full garden hose water pressure towards the trespasser. The effect is both startling and immediate. Animals quickly get out of the area and avoid it in the future. The ScareCrow motion-activated sprinkler is constructed of durable, high-quality materials, and has been designed to provide many years of reliable service.

Using the ScareCrow is easy. Simply attach a standard garden hose to its base, set the ScareCrow in the ground in the area you want to protect, and then turn on the water. Once you switch the unit on, it is ready to go.

How does it work?
The ScareCrow uses a combination of sudden noise, unexpected movement, and a startling blast of water to create a memorable and unpleasant experience for the trespasser.
The animal immediately associates this unpleasant experience with the location, and to avoid similar surprises, learns to avoid the area. If an animal chooses to return, the ScareCrow will be waiting.
While a human may flee several steps after activating a ScareCrow, animals are typically affected to a much greater degree. In most cases they run much farther, and stay away longer. Because the unit only triggers when the animal moves, its behavior is difficult for animals to anticipate, making it a very effective deterrent.

Features:
  • Scarecrow motion-activated sprinkler for humane animal deterrence
  • Detects and sprays animals in a 1,000 square foot area day and night
  • Lightweight plastic shaft; metal sprinkler head
  • Includes sprinkler, mount, and motion detector; 9-volt battery not included
  • 2-year limited warranty

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Eliminates Hooved Vermin
After deer destroyed my wife's garden over the space of three short nights, we invest in a scarecrow. It was easy to assemble and install and worked perfectly. As long as it is on, it keeps the filthy beasts out of our garden. One caveat: our deer seem to test it regularly and have returned to the garden when I've forgotten to leave the hose on. If you have a hose in your garden and a deer problem, I would not hesitate to buy this product. It works!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Does NOT Work 100% For Heron But Does Deter
Positives of this scarecrow are that it gives the extended family a lot of laughter every time we forget it's there or are doing yardwork and get sprayed by an unexpected jet of water. The miniature dachshund also loves to attack it -- setting the nozzle off which makes her bark and growl even more insanely at it.

It has NOT, however, kept a great blue heron from taking fish from our koi pond. Just this morning I found yet another speared (but not eaten) very large dead goldfish laying on the lawn nearby -- seemingly captured by the heron and then abandoned. Since this is the third fish we've lost since installing the scarecrow -- I would suggest it might scare the bird away from consuming all the fish, after it steals one fish, but it does not keep it away altogether.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent scarecrow sensor works!
We were having a difficult time keeping rabbits off our lawn. One had returned yet again to start another nest, after I had cautiously relocated her bunnies from her last litter to another area. I was concerned as I did not want to cause any harm to her offspring. Once this product was installed, it was able to detect the slightest motion in its path, and a stream of water would scare it off. We have not seen any more rabbits on the lawn since this was installed, however we did water down a guy sent to do some lawn work at our request!! NOTE: If the scarecrow is set at its most sensitive, a strong breeze or wind will also set it off.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - What a great product!
Before the Scarecrow, my garden was being "eaten alive" by all sorts of pests...racoons, skunks, squirrels, etc. Even after covering with chicken wire and mesh, they figured out a way to get in. With the scarecrow in place, I took down the ugly chicken wire and my garden was left untouched! It's a terrific concept (wish I would have thought of it) that really truly works. Just have to remember to turn it off before tending to your crops, or else your its next victim. Fantastic product!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Hey cat, do you want a bar of soap and towel with that shower?
I live in an area that is dominated by cat lovers, but I am a bird lover. My feeding area for birds became a smorgasbord for cats. Every few days I would find a pile of Dove feathers. I was seriously thinking of taking down my feeders. Then a friend told me of a water sprayer to keep unwanted pests out of your yard, I looked on Amazon and sure enough there was the Scarecrow. I ordered one and in five days had my new defense against cats. I had a great time watching cats scatter as the Scare Crow sprayed them with water. In only two days things changed from direr straights to victory. The enemy now cowers in cover far from my bird feeders. Instead of saying "hey you cats get out of here," I say "hey cats, do you want a bar of soap and towel with that shower?"

LONDON (Reuters) - President-elect Barack Obama said on Saturday he was crafting a two-year plan to fight an economic crisis of "historic proportions" and Chinese leader Hu Jintao said his country was ready to play a big role in the global effort.

The W3C Web API Working Group has published the proposed recommendation of Element Traversal Specification. "This specification defines the ElementTraversal interface, which allows script navigation of the elements of a DOM tree, excluding all other nodes in the DOM, such as text nodes. It also provides an attribute to expose the number of child elements of an element. It is intended to provide a more convenient alternative to existing DOM navigation interfaces, with a low implementation footprint." More...

If you're in the market for a PlayStation 3, you aren't going to get a better deal than this: $199 for an 80GB PS3, bundled with a game such as LittleBigPlanet, The Force Unleashed or Far Cry 2. Also, a Blu-ray bundle, such as Firefly: The Complete Series, the Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy or a James Bond Six-Pack. And hell, a PS3 remote tossed in for good measure. All for $199. But there's a catch, because there's always a catch.

These deals are a part of Amazon's yearly "Customer's Vote" promotion, in which you get to vote on which PS3 bundle you'd want to buy and then, if you're lucky, get a chance to race against everybody else for a limited quantity of said bundles. Here are how they're broken down:

PS3 Blu-ray Sci-Fi Bundle - $199.00 PlayStation 3 80GB, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, Firefly: The Complete Series, PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc remote

PS3 Blu-ray Action Bundle - $229.00 PlayStation 3 80GB, Far Cry 2, James Bond Collection 6-Pack, PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc remote

PS3 Blu-ray Family Bundle - $199.00 PlayStation 3 80GB, LittleBigPlanet, Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy, PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc remote

You've got to vote on which bundle looks the best to you, but don't play it to chance: the family bundle is currently holding a solid lead. 500 of each bundle will be available on Friday, so once you vote make sure to check your email on Thursday night to see if you're in the running for them. The winning bundle will go on sale for the listed price, with the other two going up for a bit more, but still cheap. Good luck, y'all. [Amazon]
